Where I reveals some secrets!

I was on a roll after my Friday's vlog.  And I had the house to myself.  So I recorded myself.

Of course! As you do.

This is the one where I spill some secrets!

What is your blogging secret?

  1. Great vlog again Dorothy. I think I am like you in the sense that I admire those that were able to get in there and really connect with the brands and know what questions they wanted to ask and have the brands respond to them.

I tried to with one brand, but it left me feeling a bit awkward, so I abanoned it after and kind of let the brands lead the way. Which didn't really work. Since reading and hearing some feedback from Firday I know see that I wasn't the only one left feeling awkward by one particular brand. I hope to engage with that brand again though, in the hope to be able to communicate on my terms. Does that make sense?

  2. You are such an eloquent vlogger :) I did try and speak to some brands but I think as they were new to meeting bloggers they had a set pitch, which they wouldn't divert away from, which I found frustrating. I left with many unanswered questions, even simple ones like How much does it cost comapared to your competitors product?
I would expect a brand to know the cost of their own product Nx

  3. Yay you.  I think maybe vlogging might be your thing!!  Your voices comes across really well and you are easy to watch and listen to.   Keep it up I say.

People do 'steal' ideas. But it is tricky when there are so many of us out there blogging away - the same ideas do come up!    I've been approached by several bloggers and ask if they can copy something I've done ~ and it's very nice to actually be asked rather than just see a similar idea pop up.  That is very good bloggy manners! I SO AGREE WITH THE JUST DO IT  (thanks nike) SENTIMENT.  Get out there and show off your personality and see what happens.  Even with PR offers.  I find the best way is to send them an actual post idea ~ especially if it's something creative and fun.  Sometimes I get knocked back - but not that often.  I love Kellie (3lilprincesses) attitude. Just ask!!!

Keep up the great vlogging :)

  5. Thanks, Tina!  I actually really enjoyed making these on the weekend.  I'm getting much more comfortable with myself on camera, how I look and how I sound.  And the best bit is - you can re-shoot if you really hate it!

  6. Thank you, Caz!

There is sourcing and acknowledging and then there is blatant plagiarism and stealing of ideas and contacts without giving anything back.  Often we do have similar ideas about topics, I have seen this often as, one post triggers a wave of similar ones from others, but that's different.

I'm very cautious who I talk to these days and who I share ideas with about blogging...

  7. Thanks, Nathalie.  Loving all the compliments, they will probably go to my head :D

I think the brands need to be more informed about how bloggers work before an event such as this.

Still,  I love going along and observing how the "scene" develops.  It's fascinating how different brands and different bloggers approach these things.

  8. Thanks!

I totally understand about wanting to do things on your terms.  I think these events are great for meeting brands, but I think we need to educate them more about how we work, rather than them telling us what they do, or having the "you show us what you can do" attitude.  Coles were pretty good at that, actually wanting to find out more about my blog, rather than tell me about their products.
